Since its conception in 1933, UCC Group has embodied the founding spirit of 'delivering flavourful coffee to as many people as possible anytime and anywhere'. This vision led us to expand the coffee business to encompass every aspect of coffee. From the cultivation of coffee trees, procurement of materials, R&D, roasting & processing, sales, creating coffee culture, to quality assurance. Our ambition is the driving force behind our constant pursuit of innovation such as creating the nation's first vacuum-packed ground coffee, world's first canned coffee and Japan's unique coffee shop styles. By refining our techniques and expanding our offerings, we will consistently add value to the market.

As one of the representative enterprises of Japanese coffee culture, UCC has been committed to making high-quality coffee more accessible to consumers since its establishment in 1933, allowing them to enjoy the original rich aroma of freshly ground coffee. To achieve this, we have been deeply engaged in the coffee industry, from cultivating coffee on our own farms and ensuring the quality of raw materials to product development, sales, and the promotion of coffee culture. With the spirit of a true coffee craftsman, UCC always prioritizes the consumer’s perspective, striving to provide every cup of coffee that brings a heartfelt smile.
Since entering the Chinese market in 1998, UCC has provided Chinese consumers with a wide variety of coffee products. In 2007, we established a roasting factory to offer high-quality roasted coffee products to our business clients.
In recent years, with the rapid development of China’s coffee industry and e-commerce sector, the UCC brand and our products have gained increasing popularity among consumers. We have also observed the growing demand for coffee consumption, the pursuit of high quality, and the gradual formation of a unique Chinese coffee culture.
As coffee culture continues to evolve in the Chinese market, UCC, with its traditional Japanese coffee craftsmanship, aims to explore more possibilities and bring even more outstanding products to Chinese consumers.

The UCC story began in 1933 when an ambitious young man established a western food store in Kobe, Japan. Ueshima Tadao’s passion for all things Western soon led him to discover coffee. To him, coffee was a rich, aromatic ‘mysterious beverage’. It became an endeavour so passionate, he dedicated his life to making coffee popular across Japan.

The UCC story began in 1933 when an ambitious young man established a western food store in Kobe, Japan. Ueshima Tadao’s passion for all things Western soon led him to discover coffee. To him, coffee was a rich, aromatic ‘mysterious beverage’. It became an endeavour so passionate, he dedicated his life to making coffee popular across Japan.
OUR HISTORY
Ueshima Tadao Shoten was founded in Kobe.
Ueshima Coffee Co., Ltd. was established with capital of 1 million yen; the Tokyo branch was opened.
The first UCC building, formerly the Kobe Headquarters, was established.
The UCC president, Tadao Ueshima, was appointed by the Japanese government to lead a team sent to observe how coffee was produced in Ethiopia and three other countries in East Africa.
UCC developed the world’s first canned coffee beverage and began manufacture and sales.
The industry’s first TV commercial for home-use coffee for brewing was screened.
Tadao Ueshima represented Japan at the international coffee conference held in Mexico and gave a speech about coffee consumption in Japan.
Construction was completed for what is now known as the Fuji Factory, the main plant for whole beans and ground coffee.
UCC established Hills Bros. Coffee (Japan) Inc.
The UCC Blue Mountain Coffee Estate was opened in Jamaica.
UCC became an official sponsor of Tokyo Disneyland.
The UCC Coffee Museum was opened on Port Island in Kobe.
UCC established a subsidiary in the U.S.
The UCC Hawaii Kona Coffee Estate was opened in Hawaii.
UCC collaborated with Dutch firm Douwe Egberts to introduce its Moccomat® (now Cafitesse®) systems in Japan.
Construction was completed for the Rokko Island Factory.
UCC established a subsidiary in Shanghai, China.
UCC became the first company in the coffee industry to obtain ISO 9001 certification at all its factories.
UCC became an official sponsor of Tokyo DisneySea.
The Specialty Coffee Association of Japan was established and Tatsushi Ueshima became its first chairman.
UCC Blue Mountain Coffee Estate in Jamaica became the first coffee estate in the Caribbean to obtain Rainforest Alliance certification.
UCC Holdings Co.,Ltd. was established.
UCC opened a local office in Vietnam.
Construction was completed for the Shiga Factory.
UCC opened the UCC Coffee Village in Kobe (featuring the UCC Coffee Museum, UCC Coffee Academy, and UCC Training Center).
UCC opened the UCC Coffee Academy Tokyo.
ART COFFEE CO. LTD. became a subsidiary of Unicafe Inc.
